Camillus House solidifies its senior management team with the appointment of Gloria Barbier as vice president of institutional advancement

MIAMI (August 17, 2006) ---In support of its goal to eliminate chronic homelessness in Miami, Camillus House announces the appointment of Gloria Barbier as its Vice President of Institutional Advancement. Barbier will direct the charity’s fundraising efforts and oversee the strategic development of the organization’s planned giving and major gifts programs.

In announcing the appointment, Dr. Paul R. Ahr, President of Camillus House, said, "Ms. Barbier brings to Camillus House an impressive mix of strategic fundraising and management skills, and, having lived in Miami for several years, she’s intimately familiar with the challenges and opportunities associated with the local philanthropic community.”

Barbier will also play a key role in the organization’s upcoming capital campaign to relocate its existing shelter on N.E. 1st avenue to a site agreed upon last year with the University of Miami and the City of Miami, which is located in the area of N.W. 7th avenue and 14th street.

Prior to joining Camillus House, Barbier was the Executive Director of World Vision, Florida. Working for one of the largest relief and development organizations in the world, Barbier was responsible for increasing public awareness and financial resources to support World Vision programs around the world, particularly those in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Barbier was founder and partner of The G&G Group, a firm of professionals offering public relations campaigns, strategic marketing analysis and communications management for business and non-governmental institutions.

Barbier was also Director of the US Fund for UNICEF South Florida until April 2002. In October 1999, she established the Miami office, developing a strategic plan to support the operational budget for the Latin America and Caribbean offices of UNICEF. Prior to that appointment, Barbier was Director of Marketing and Business Development for UNICEF in Bogotá, Colombia. In this role, she was responsible for increasing public awareness for UNICEF and its investment in Colombia's children. She successfully negotiated strategic alliances with Colombia's most prominent organizations and other international businesses, which resulted in $1.5 million in funds for the organization.

Prior to joining UNICEF, Barbier was Regional Director of Latin America for Technoserve, Inc. in Norwalk, CT, a leading agricultural and industrial enterprise development company. She was also Managing Director of International Trade in Minnesota where she was responsible for introducing financing techniques to exporting companies in the upper Midwest.

Barbier received her bachelor's degree in economics from Colegio Mayor del Rosario University in Bogotá, Colombia. She also received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, and a master's degree in international management from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota.

Barbier serves as a member of the International MBA Advisory Board at Florida International University and as a member of the Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board of Miami-Dade County. She is also a member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the PTA at Sunset Elementary, the Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce, and of Women in International Trade.

Serving persons who are poor and homeless in Miami-Dade County for more than 46 years, Camillus House provides a family of services to those in need including: health care, counseling, addiction recovery, housing and life skills training, as well as emergency food, clothing and shelter. Through this "continuum of care," Camillus House helps individuals and families rebuild their lives and reenter society as self-sufficient, productive citizens.
