Job Opportunity Bureau

For many homeless people, the loss of a job marked the beginning of their downward spiral. And once homeless, most find it impossible to get another job. What most people would consider basic “givens” – getting cleaned up, finding clothing appropriate for a job interview, having a home to operate from, arranging transportation – can present extreme challenges for men and women trying to get back on track.

Camillus House’s Job Opportunity Bureau (JOB) prepares individuals who are homeless with the skills, confidence and support to find and keep meaningful employment. The program has partnered with local businesses and educational institutions to provide hands-on employment training through multiple career tracks. Job developers work with each individual to assess their area of interest, assist with any educational short-comings and guide them to graduate the program with a job that allows them to “pay rent” and become self-sufficient. Hence, the aim of this program is not just to prepare individuals for their first job, but for their first promotion.

Naming rights for the Job Opportunity Bureau program is $5 million and supports:

  • construction of a facility with 64 residential beds and support infrastructure
  • the addition of services for women and Spanish speaking individuals
  • the expansion of educational programs including GED prep, literacy, and career training
  • the development of a One-Stop Center for South Florida Workforce
